passion, tradition and the Chianti

I Selvatici Winery was founded in 1953 by Grandfather Giuseppe Sala. When he first purchased the land, it had some vineyards  of Sangiovese, Malvasia and Canaiolo, but much of the land was wild or had other crops like wheat and corn growing on it.

The first wine was produced in 1958 and later became the famous 1958 Vinsanto after spending 40 years in the barrel. The winery consists of 65 hectors of land, of which, 20 are vineyards. Located in the hills of Chianti, I Selvatici is the first winery on the Chianti Strada. The charming hamlet of Ricasoli, just minutes from the winery, was founded by the godfather of the sangiovese grape, Baron Ricasoli, a noblemen in the medievil times. Sangiovese is the primary grape grown Chianti.
